Choose an SMS activation, rental or monthly number

Choose by the service you are allowed to use and how long you need access to the number. A one-time activation, a service-specific rental and a monthly number are separate products. An available number does not guarantee that another service will accept it or deliver a code.

Short answers

How is an activation different from a rental?

An activation is intended for a one-time task on the selected service. A rental provides access for the stated paid term and selected service. Do not assume an activation can be reused later, or that a service-specific rental accepts messages for every service.

Which rental lengths are supported?

The catalogue can list 3, 7, 14 or 30-day service-specific rentals where offered. Read the duration on the actual listing. Every service and country does not necessarily have every length available.

Does a monthly number renew automatically?

A monthly listing covers its current term. Automatic digital renewal is not offered. Monthly does not promise permanent ownership, a fixed 30-day period or the right to keep the same number for another term.

Will I get a refund if no code arrives?

A missing code does not automatically establish a refund. Confirm your account email and send a refund request for owner review. Eligibility depends on the current service conditions; your payment and wallet history show a refund after it is processed.

Choose the service and access period first

Start with the account task you are authorised to perform. Check whether that service permits the number type, then read the listed country, service name and term. Price alone does not answer whether you will still need access when a later message arrives.

Use the type, service and duration filters in the SMS catalogue. The catalogue can offer service-specific rentals for 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, but only the actual listing establishes what is available. A monthly label is not a reason to replace a reported end time with your own date calculation.

Match the country to the product type

Current Portproof activation and fixed-term rental listings use US numbers for a selected service. Monthly numbers have a separate country selection. Seeing a country in the monthly catalogue does not mean you can buy an activation or service-specific rental there. Check the actual listing and its purchasing status rather than treating a country filter as a coverage promise.

  1. For one permitted task, compare US activations. Read the selected service and the delivered activation’s lifetime; later reuse depends on the resource’s capabilities and state.
  2. For access over several days, compare US rentals. Choose the service and the stated 3, 7, 14 or 30-day term before paying. A longer term changes access duration; it does not establish acceptance by other services.
  3. For a monthly number, check the listed country, current term and purchasing status. No single service is preselected, but each sender may still reject the number. Monthly does not add automatic renewal or a guaranteed second term.

If you may need another verification message after the paid term, plan an allowed recovery method before choosing any of these products. Refreshing an existing inbox checks messages; it does not extend the term. The expiry and account-access guide covers that decision in detail.

One-time access is not permanent recovery access

An activation can fit a permitted one-time task. Before choosing it, consider whether the account could request another message after that access ends. Do not set up an important account’s only recovery path on the assumption that you can buy the same number again later.

Some delivered activations expose reuse or paid reuse. Those options depend on the returned capabilities and state; they are not a promise attached to every activation. The account page shows only the actions currently available for that service.

A paid term still has an end

A fixed rental extends the period of access for its selected service. A monthly number has a different scope, but it still has a current term. Neither should be described as indefinite ownership. Portproof does not offer automatic digital renewal or a general rent-again control in this integration.

Review recovery settings tied to the number before access ends, using the account service’s allowed process. NIST’s authentication guidance treats telephone-network authentication as restricted and identifies number changes as a security consideration. This is access-planning context, not a Portproof certification.

Read delivery and message states separately

  1. Open My numbers and select the service associated with your existing order.
  2. Check its status, service details, end time and last-checked time.
  3. Use Refresh status & messages for a fresh check. Older saved information may not describe the current state.
  4. Read the message or use Copy code when a code is available. Use Load older messages only when that control is shown.
Choose the next step from the state you can confirm
StateNext step
Purchase or delivery is still unconfirmedCheck the existing order or request status. Another purchase does not resolve its result.
The message read failed or its information is oldRefresh status and messages, then inspect the new check result. A failed read is not an empty inbox.
A fresh check shows no messageConfirm the owned number, selected service and active term. Follow the sender’s guidance without assuming it accepted the number.
Message content is unavailableKeep this distinct from an empty inbox. The unavailable content does not provide a code you can use; seek support if the existing state remains unclear.
The sender rejects the number or methodStop that task and follow its permitted authentication or recovery process. Buying another number does not establish that the method is allowed.

No messages yet, a failed message read and unavailable message content mean different things. None proves that another service accepted the number. Google’s verification help provides one example of messages being delayed and numbers being rejected or limited. Follow the receiving service’s requirements rather than repeating a refused task with new numbers.

Review any follow-on action before confirming

For a cancellation or refund, confirm your account email and submit a refund request for owner review. Supported paid actions, such as reuse, show a fresh wallet quote before confirmation. Review the charge and terms before confirming. The refund policy explains eligibility and processing; a code not arriving is not itself a confirmed refund.

If the result is still being confirmed, use Check request status where available. A Retry the same request control keeps the existing request reference. Do not create another purchase to investigate an uncertain one. If the state remains unclear, contact support with the existing order rather than sharing received codes or other account secrets.

This is separate from an eSIM data plan

A web-managed SMS number does not install a profile on your phone or add SMS entitlement to a data-only eSIM. Compare data-only eSIMs and SMS if you need both internet access and incoming messages. The eSIM installation guide covers device setup, not number rental.

Check current SMS listings for the permitted service, country and term. For an existing purchase, open My numbers.

What is not allowed

Use SMS services only for accounts you own or are authorised to manage, where the receiving service allows it. Follow its rules and the acceptable-use policy.
